Project: Mentoring in Action
Agency: TNG
Project Duration: March 2007-May 2008
Nature of Activity: Recruit and train mentors to mentor offenders as part of their intervention and rehabilitation plan (Level 3 Mentoring Award delivered to Mentor) Offenders may be on job placements, hence mentor could come from the workplace or external volunteers.

Project: English for Employment Purposes (EfEP) IELTS
Agency: Overseas Qualification Development Programme, Leicester College
Project Duration: August 2006-March 2008
Nature of Activity: To assist individuals to deliver recognised and accredited English for Speaks of other languages (ESOL) provision, at Level 3 or an international English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0 or above, to beneficiaries who are unemployed or under-employed. Assisting with information, advice and guidance, to enable individuals to enter academic or professional skills, supporting them towards Higher Education and Employment.

Project: Access to Learning 2
Agency: South Leicestershire College
Project Duration: March 2006-March 2008
Geographical Area: South Leicestershire and South of City
Nature of Activity: Project offers free 12hr non accredited taster courses in a range of priority and other curriculum areas, leading to 30hr accredited programmes, as a stepping stone to Level 2 courses. e.g. intro to care, childcare, customer service, pre-access to HE, counselling, complementary therapies, media and teaching assistants.

Project: Skills for Sustainable Communities Lifelong Learning Network (funded by HEFCE)
Project Duration: September 2006-March 2010
Geographical Area: Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Rutland and Northamptonshire
Target Area: Vocational learners, learners in employment and their employers
Nature of Activity: To increase the number of vocational learners (including adults) studying at HE level in the areas of: Construction, Health and Social Care, Food and Drink Manufacture, Creative Industries.

Project: Learning and Work
Agency: Leicester City Libraries
Project Duration: August 2007-July 2008
Geographical Area: City wide, delivering at 6 libraries
Nature of Activity: Free advice on work and learning, including developing new skills, succeeding at interviews, job application forms, compiling a CV and looking for the right job.

Project: PS Plus
Agency: Leicestershire and Rutland Probation Area
in partnership with APEX
Project Duration: Summer 2006-Summer 2008
Geographical Area: Leicestershire and Rutland
Nature of Activity: PS Plus is an ESF funded programme, set up with the aim of motivating unemployed offenders to access education, training and employment.
Eligibility Criteria: Participants need to be currently under the supervision of the Probation Service in Leicestershire and Rutland

Project: Programme Centre
Agency: Instant Muscle
Project Duration: September 2007-January 2008
Geographical Area: Leicestershire
Nature of Activity: Provision of a individually tailored programme to overcome barriers to employment, i.e. confidence, interview techniques, letter writing etc. The length of the programme will vary depending on the clients Job Centre Plus Advisors assessment, of their needs and can last upto a maximum of 13 weeks.
Eligibility Criteria: Clients claiming JSA for 6 months plus or clients who have day one eligibility i.e. lone parents etc.

Project: Lone Parent Project
Agency: Connexions Leicester Shire
Project Duration: April 2007-March 2008
Geographical Area: Leicester City
Nature of Activity: Offering one-to-one Personal Adviser support for Lone Parents of all ages with moving into work or training. Including advice and guidance, job search, CV writing, interview skills, building confidence and self-esteem, help with accessing training and employment and support with finding childcare.
Eligibility Criteria: A lone parent of any age, living in a certain postcode area under the LSOA -Neighbourhood Renewal Funding.

Project: Learn2Earn
Agency: Leicestershire Adult Learning Service
Project Duration: October 2006-March 2009
Evaluation Report March 2009
Geographical Area: Available across the County. (Workers are based in Birstall, Coalville, Hinckley, Earl Shilton, Melton, Wigston/South Wigston and Loughborough). 
Nature of Activity: Supporting people who receive IB or similar benefits into learning and/or work. Participants are offered significant amounts of 1:1 IAG and support by specialist teams in both adult learning (LiC Workers) and work (Breaking the Barriers). Some participants attend a Core Group which focuses on further soft skills building and peer support. Participants can then attend relevant classes offered by LALS or other providers to build soft skills and/or to obtain a qualification. Soft skills sessions include Confidence Building, Stress Management and Exercise and Diet. At the point appropriate to the participant, s/he is referred to the Breaking the Barriers team for specialist support into Permitted or full-time employment. (permitted employment is part-time work which has sanctioned to be carried out alongside receipt of benefit for a limited period.)
Eligibility Criteria: Learn2Earn main focus is on adults who are in receipt of Incapacity Benefit, Income Support/National Insurance Credits (because of disability) or Severe Disablement Allowance. However, adults who are not in receipt of benefit but who are otherwise disadvantaged can be supported in learning.

Project: Skills for Jobs
Agency: Leicestershire Adult Learning Service
Project Duration: September 2007-July 2009
Geographical Area: Some support is available County-wide for priority groups. Otherwise work is focussed in Wigston/South Wigston, Coalville, Donisthorpe/Moira/Measham, Shepshed, Loughborough, Melton, Hinckley, Lutterworth and Thurmaston.
Nature of Activity: Skills for Jobs, offer 1:1 IAG and entry into a range of short courses which support employability, as well as the longer Get into Work programme which support English and Maths as well as employment-related skills. Participants are supported into work and beyond with 13 weeks' aftercare via telephone support.
Eligibility Criteria: Low skills adults aged 19+, not currently in employment, but who want to work. Within this broad category meeting the needs of local disadvantaged communities and individuals facing specific barriers and disadvantages are a priority. These barriers include being disabled, being from an ethnic minority, being over 50, being a lone parent.

Project: Job Service Partnership
Agency: Job Service Partnership (Leicester City Council)
Project Duration: February 2005 -ongoing subject to funding
Geographical Area: LSOA areas within the City
Nature of Activity: JSP tackles deprivation and exclusion by targeting those who are disadvantaged in the labour market and who want support to access employment. 
Eligibility Criteria: Unemployed and those from Ethnic minority backgrounds, disabled, with health conditions, low or no qualifications, and aged over 50; living in LSOA priority postcodes.
