Do something different....learn something new, was the idea for Family Learning Week this year!  Leicestershire families were spoilt for choice during Family Learning Week, with over 200 activities to choose from, ranging from football sessions, healthy eating and storytelling to travelling through time with Dr Who and magical fun with Harry Potter .

This is the eighth year of the national awareness campaign, which aims to highlight the importance of Family Learning. Organisations throughout the country get together each year to put on an array of fun activities essentially to involve the whole family, helping them to discover new interests, aptitudes and abilities, which they can go on later to explore. Visit www.familylearningweek.com for more details.

Opportunity Age
The Department for Work and Pensions have recently issued a White Paper called "Opportunity Age" which looks at the implications of the ageing population for learning and skills as well as wider issues.

 Tony Blair

'Over the next 50 years, the UK and the rest of the world will experience an unprecedented change in the fabric of society. As life expectancy increases and the birth rate remains low, the proportion of the population aged over 65 will increase dramatically............as older people become an ever more significant proportion of the population, society will increasingly depend upon the contribution they can make.' - Tony Blair, Prime Minister.

East Midlands Adult Learners' Awards 2005
The Award Ceremony was held on Thursday 19th May at the Walkers Stadium in Leicester.  It was truly a lively celebration of adult learning, with a mix of people from learners, tutors, friends, families and employers from across the East Midlands.

Neil Kefford from Leicester Sound radio led the proceedings of the awards telling some of the many heart-warming stories of the winners learning journeys, recognising how many of these learners had undertaken learning against the odds and faced many challenges, in which to improve their skills and prospects and even transform their lives.
